From getting at least 30 minutes of movement in each day to pursuing a new hobby, you might have a few goals you’ve set for yourself in 2023. Why not add some oral hygiene-related resolutions to that as well? After all, a healthy smile can positively impact your overall health as well as your personal life and professional success! With this in mind, keep reading to learn five resolutions that will help you achieve a better smile in 2023.

Resolution #1: Floss Every Day

Did you know that one survey from Spotlight Oral Care found that nearly 60% of people never floss? If you’re one of them, now is the time to leave this bad dental habit in the past! After all, flossing is an essential step in any good oral hygiene routine because it cleans between your teeth and removes plaque from along your gumline.

Resolution #2: Brush for a Full Two Minutes Each Morning and Evening

Remember, getting the bristles of your toothbrush wet and quickly scrubbing your teeth doesn’t count. To thoroughly clean your teeth and prevent decay, you need to use toothpaste and brush for a full two minutes twice a day. If you have trouble keeping track of the time, try buying an electric toothbrush with a built-in timer! Otherwise, you can use the stopwatch on your phone.

Resolution #3: Drink More Water

Are you a fan of coffee, wine, or soda? While you don’t need to eliminate these beverages from your diet entirely for the sake of your oral health, it is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day as well. Not only will this beverage help you stay hydrated, but it will also help keep your teeth clean, doesn’t cause stains, and is sugar-free!

Resolution #4: Add More Vitamin-Rich Foods to Your Diet

Fresh fruits and vegetables aren’t just great for your overall health, they are great for your oral health too! So, try adding one or the other to each meal in 2023. Note: if you don’t like the taste of greens, try sneaking them into a smoothie. Or, try using a different cooking method, like putting them in the air fryer.

Resolution #5: Visit Your Dentist Every 3-6 Months

Has it been more than six months since your last dental checkup and cleaning? Then start 2023 strong by scheduling your next appointment! Remember, these visits aren’t optional. On the contrary, they are essential for a healthy, happy smile.
