While dental discomfort can often be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and a few adjustments to your eating habits, it can sometimes be a sign of urgent underlying issues like severe dental infections or unseen injuries. Here\u2019s a quick guide to a few common types of dental pain and when it may be necessary to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoursmileman.com\/emergency-dentistry.html\">contact your emergency dentist<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Toothache<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mild dental pain will usually go away on its own, but a toothache that is severe or persists for several days may be the result of an advanced infection that has reached the soft pulp tissue at the center of the tooth. A severe infection such as this will not go away on its own and must be resolved with treatments from a qualified dental professional. To prevent tooth loss, your dentist may have to perform a restorative procedure such as a root canal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dental Sensitivity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dental sensitivity may be the result of temporary gum irritation, but there are cases where it is caused by infection or cracks in the enamel. If you experience a mildly uncomfortable tingling sensation in your teeth that doesn\u2019t last longer than a few seconds, it is probably a temporary problem that can be addressed with pain medication or desensitizing toothpaste or by avoiding hot or cold foods or beverages. However, sensitivity that is severe or lasts for several days means you should contact your emergency dentist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Soreness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In many cases, sore teeth are the result of involuntary teeth grinding during sleep. While this is not necessarily a dental emergency, it can lead to enamel damage and tooth loss if it goes untreated for too long. Luckily, many dentists can address this problem with customized nightguards that deliver protection far superior to that of similar store-bought products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tooth pain can be a sign of a serious oral health issue.
